ASU nears another top-10 Directors' Cup finish Fri, 13 Jun 2008 12:10:18 -0700Arizona State is ninth in the next to last U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings for the 2007-08 school year.ASU is virtually assured of a school record second consecutive top-10 finish in the measure of overall athletic department on-field success. In final standings on June 26, the Sun Devils will pick up 64 points for a super regional appearance in baseball and 100-plus for men's and women's outdoor track. Stanford already has clinched a 14th consecutive Division 1 Directors' Cup title with 1,419 points. Michigan currently is second with 1,061. The rest of the top 10 is: 3. UCLA (1,048); 4. California (1,044); 5. Ohio State (1,017.25); 6. Texas (974.50); 7. Florida (927.75); 8. Penn State (961), 9. ASU (918.50) and 10. Georgia (890). Others in the Pac-10 are: 11. Southern California (827.50); 21. Washington (686.75); 31. Oregon (545); 38. Arizona (494); 76. Oregon State (218.50); 88. Washington State (190.50). ASU's best Directors' Cup finishes were 10th in 1993-94, 9th in 2000-01, 10th in 2002-03 and 10th in 2006-07. In the second spring Directors' Cup standings, ASU picked up 100 points for its first NCAA softball championship, 75 points in women's golf, 56.5 in men's golf, 50 in women's tennis and 25 in men's tennis. ASU scored 165 points in the fall, 447 in the winter including men's and women's indoor track championships and 306.5 so far in the spring. Baseball America put ASU's Brett Wallace and Ike Davis on its All-America first team, Mike Leake on the second team and Jason Kipnis on the third team.
