Davis, Sauer updates Mon, 28 Apr 2008 22:25:47 -0700The medical news on Arizona State leading hitter Ike Davis and pitcher Stephen Sauer was encouraging Monday.Neither is believed to have a serious injury although their return remains uncertain. Davis is suffering from a rib cage strain and not a more serious intercostal strain. The junior first baseman/relief pitcher has missed three of the last seven games, first with a hamstring strain and now the rib injury. he might require a cortisone shot if pain does not subside with rest. Nothing was found to be structurally wrong with Sauer's right shoulder so he too is hoping to return with rest. The junior last pitched in the Oregon State series, April 18-20, for a combined three innings in three games. No. 4-ranked ASU (35-7) is off until a series beginning Friday at UCLA. In addition to the 10 ASU football players, including safety Zach Catanese, who will be trying to make it as NFL rookies in the fall, two others former Sun Devils are hoping to make it in the Canadian Football League. Wide receiver Matt Miller and tackle Julius Orieukwu. Miller's pro aspirations were stalled by injury after the 2005 season much like Catanese after the '06 season. |
